Lost Record Shops

Many thanks to the British Record Shop Archive who have donated this collection of scans of long lost record store bags to our gallery.

These bags are an amazing historical snapshot of the shops up and down the land where music was purchased, bands were discussed and shared and the youth of the day had a local spiritual home to meet like minded music fans.

It's all a long way from the way music is consumed today, and despite a small and vibrant indie record store scene, unlikely to ever be seen again.

This collection includes Dobells Jazz Record Shop, one of London's most famous historical record shops and the subject of an exhibition by the BRSA in 2014.

See more scans and find out more on our nation's long lost indie record stores at the British Record Shop Archive's website.
