Story of Pop

The Story of Pop magazine came out in 1973. It was a fortnightly magazine which looked into the 'history' of rock and was billed as the first encyclopedia of pop and accompanied a weekly radio programme of the same name.

The collection of all covers is presented here for you! It was a unique magazine/collection which tried too early to be a definitive guide to popular music. Written before the advent of punk, the writing is, through our modern eyes, actually quite naive.

The covers start out with unique artwork, only to become more traditional as time, and the editions, go on.

The magazine was released in the US and retitled, the Story of Rock.  Many thanks to Carmen and Philip for completing our collection and sending us scans of our missing front covers!
